Hakan I. Tarman was born in İzmir, Turkey. After high school education in İzmir Buca Lisesi, he received the B.Sc. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics, and the M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Boğaziçi University, İstanbul, Turkey. He received the Ph.D. degree in Applied Mathematics from Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, USA. He is currently with the Department of Engineering Sciences, Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey.

His current research interests are in Computational Mechanics.
